Paul exhorts us to "put on" Christ's character. He says it more explicitly in Romans 13:14. While this is a direct command, we must be careful that we do not try to manufacture Christ's character in our own strength. Rather, we are to allow the Holy Spirit to bring forth the fruit of Christ's righteousness that has been given to us.
I think this is going to be an excellent series that reminds us to be sanctified in the Spirit's power and direction and not our own.
Meditate today on each the following words that made up the main points of the sermon (Colossians 3:12). Let the truth of who you are now in Christ sink in deep so the Spirit can transform your thinking about your own sanctification
* Put on - Although an active verb, we still allow the Spirit to do the work
* Then - Points back to Colossians 3:11... Christ is our ALL!
* Chosen ones - You have been adopted by God. He picked you!
* Holy - You have been made holy... yet He is still making you holy.
* Beloved - You are fully accepted by God and blessed beyond measure
When you really stop to think about all that has been given us because of Christ's death and resurrection, it really does change the way you think about your life. He has loved us and made us holy so that we can reflect Christ's character for his glory. That is the mandate for every Christian.
So, let's "put on" Christ for all to see his glory.
thanks for posting review of sunday sermon-especially good if you are in the nursery!
